WHO IS YOUR COUNSELOR?

Mrs. Wingate is a high school graduate from Merryville High School. After high school, she attended McNeese State Univeristy where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Social Studies Education Grades 6-12 with 30 hours in English. Mrs. Wingate began her teaching career in junior high and high school English Language Arts at Singer HIgh School. She did this for three years while earning a Masters of Education in School Counseling. She has been a school counselor for eight years. During that time she has added Educational Leadership to her ceritifcate through an alternate program. Mrs. Wingate is married and has two daughters. Her hobbies are reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family. Her passion lies in helping others succeed and holding true to the following mission statement: 

MISSION STATEMENT: The DeRidder High School Counseling Department is dedicated to providing a proactive, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate program to address students’ academic and career goals in addition to supporting their personal and social needs. This is accomplished through a parternship with parents/guardians, staff, and community members to enable all students in becoming successful, productive citizens and lifelong learners in a diverse and changing world.

SENIOR/PARENT NIGHT

Senior/Parent night is held every September for seniors and their parents. Students are provided packets of information for their senior year. The counselor presents information about graduation requirements, TOPS, honors, scholarships, and much more. If you missed it, click here to check out the presentation:

SCHEDULING

Class meetings will be held in the Spring. At these meetings, students will be able to build their class schedules with the assistant of DeRidder High School staff and Counseling Department. After the class meetings have been held, you may schedule an appointment with Mrs. Wingate if you need further assistance with scheduling and college/career planning. Information about the upcoming Class Meetings will be sent out on Remind and our Facebook page.
